The Hills are alive with the sound of a Major

The United States Golf Association spent Monday in Hartford, Wisconsin where just south of town lies a swath of land that will play host to the state’s first U.S. Open Championship.

Erin Hills, at still a very young age, but already a Golf Digest top 10 Public Course in the United States, was eyed as a U.S. Open site almost from the time it opened.

It will host the 117th U.S. Open next June 12-18.

The rolling and lengthy course, with only a handful of trees that come into play, is no stranger to USGA competition.

A lot will be happening between now and next summer before the world’s best compete for the American major championship. It won’t involve golfers however, as Erin Hills will close in October, brace itself for another Wisconsin winter and then get primped for the Open all spring.

I had a chance to visit with Jeff Hall of the USGA to talk about the preparations leading up to the Championship and his role come tournament time.

Kohler Golf has established Wisconsin as a championship destination with three PGA Championships and the 2020 Ryder Cup and now the USGA is ready to recognize Erin Hills as the next great venue for Major Championship Professional golf.
