Perry activated and running back revolving door

2 min read

The Packers returned to the practice field on Sunday, a closed practice devoted exclusively to the Chicago Bears, their opening night opponent at Lambeau Field on September 9.

Veteran linebacker Nick Perry donned the pads for the first time as he finally passed his physical and was activated from the physically unable to perform list.

Perry had been recovering from off-season ankle surgery and for the first three weeks of camp, was rehabbing the injury and doing individual work on his own.

“This is a great day”, Perry said, “or as my father would say, an exquisite day.”

Perry feels he’ll be ready for opening night despite the fact the Packers have only three public practices left in training camp along with the final two pre-season games, at Oakland this Friday night and in Kansas City on Thursday, August 30.

The Packers have a lot of uncertainty at the back up running back positions behind Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery.

Aaron Jones has returned to practice but must sit the first two regular season games, the result of a league suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. Davante Mays has been out since the first week of camp with an injury.

On Saturday, Akeem Judd, who was signed just over a week ago, informed the Packers he was giving up football. General Manager Brian Gutekunst then placed Judd on the reserve/retired list.

The packers signed LeShun Daniels, a free agent running back who spent time on the practice squads in both Los Angeles with the Chargers and with the Redskins. Daniels was active for four games last season.

On Sunday, Green Bay added Bronson Hill, an undrafted free agent from Eastern Michigan who entered the league in 2015. He’s been with seven different teams since, mostly as a practice squad member. He’s been on an active roster for only five weeks in the past four years.

Both new backs will be on Ray Nitschke Field Monday as camp resumes with a 12:15 PM practice.
